Our current research is focused on the genes and regulatory mechanisms that control body weight, leptins mechanism of action, and its relevance to the pathogenesis of obesity. Other studies seek to elucidate the mechanism by which a single molecule, leptin, can modulate a complex behavior, feeding. Finally, efforts to establish the genetic basis of human obesity on the Pacific Island of Kosrae are also under way.
The Research Assistant will support experiments designed to elucidate the neural circuits regulating feeding and metabolism. Duties will include assisting postdocs primarily with neurosurgeries for opto and chemo genetics, behavioral assays, immunohistochemistry protocols, and mouse colony maintenance. In addition, the Research Assistant will be responsible for various general laboratory tasks such as managing lab supplies and stocks. Targeted salary is $46,000 to $50,000.
Bachelors degree required; educational emphasis in life sciences, with preference for neuroscience and molecular biology. Experience in basic mouse handling and genetics a huge bonus. Must be willing to work with mice as a model organism. Ability to work well as part of a team a must.
