Department Description

RockEDU connects scientific and non-scientific communities to engage in the wonder of science as a justice-centered process integral to our humanity. Our primary audiences are scientists, K-12 educators, high school students, and undergraduate students. Our initiatives and resources can be accessed in person, via placed-based mentorship programs, lectures and/or workshops, or online, via streaming services like Zoom and/or RockEDU Online.

Detailed Description

The RockEDU Program Manager for Research Education will report to the Director of RockEDU and will be working primarily on-site in the RockEDU Science Outreach Lab. Additionally, this person will be an accountable member of the RockEDU team. The primary responsibility of this role includes direct management of our longstanding skill-building and mentored research programs for high school students, LAB Jumpstart and SSRP. Also, direct management of the RockEDU Fellows and Track Scientists initiatives, which supports Rockefeller scientists in designing and implementing research curricula suitable for high school students participating in the LAB Jumpstart and SSRP. Building in assessments, evaluations, and annual reports to understand how to continue iterating and improving on these programs.The team-based responsibilities of this role include assisting with content creation for RockEDU Online and assisting with our research skills building program for NYC high school students, LAB Jumpstart, which is part of the NYC Science Research Mentoring Consortium. Assisting with annual and "one-off" programming, such as lab tours, Science Saturday, or a special lecture. The program manager will assist with teaching and mentoring of community members as needed/requested.

Job Requirements

Ph.D. required. The ideal candidate can work well both independently and, on a team, and should have experience with laboratory research techniques and working with high school and undergraduates through teaching and mentoring. The Program Manager for Research Education is expected to continue learning and advancing their own understanding of relevant inclusive science education and mentorship practices through the regular participation in professional network meetings, events, and workshops. Most of this work will take place inside of normal business hours, though some level of scheduling flexibility will be required when programs or events occasionally take place after hours.
