Organization Overview

The Comparative Bioscience Center provides a comprehensive program of animal care in support of the University's in vivo research. The goal of our staff is to provide investigators with the highest level of research support at the lowest cost while ensuring the welfare of the animals used in the research. The center is fully accredited by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC).

Overview

The Cage Wash Attendant is primarily responsible for cage sanitation, physical plant maintenance, and the safe operation of sanitation equipment.

Responsibilities

The CBC Cage Wash Attendant Responsibilities, included, but are not limited to:

  • Movement of equipment throughout the facility and maintaining clean conditions within the cage wash area

  • Maintaining hallways clean by removing dirty equipment to the cage-wash area for processing

  • Must maintain ample clean autoclave supplies

  • Must assist in the maintenance of cleanliness throughout the facility including but limited to procedure spaces, corridors, offices, break area, locker rooms, etc.

  • Must contribute to the collection of waste, changing light bulbs, restocking supplies, and fulfilling appropriate requests

  • Operate machinery, including laundry, autoclaves, equipment washers, and hoists

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent required. Must be able to lift supplies that weigh up to 50 pounds and push/pull cars on weight-bearing wheels weighing approximately 500 pounds. Must be able to engage in a full range of motion, tolerate bending, stretching, walking, standing for long periods, push/pull, reaching above shoulders, and climbing ladders as needed; must not be allergic to animals, waste products, or bedding. Previous cleaning or porter work is a plus. Requirements are subject to change based on facility needs.
