Rockefeller University Assistant Director of Outreach Programming and Events in New York, New York
The Development Program provides in excess of $50 million in private support annually toward the mission of The Rockefeller University, which is to improve the understanding of life for the benefit of humanity. Working with the Board of Trustees and volunteer groups including The Rockefeller University Council, the Committee on Trust and Estate Plans, and the Women and Science and Parents and Science Initiatives, the Development Office oversees all private fund-raising at the University, including annual, capital, and endowment campaigns.
The Assistant Director of Outreach Programming and Events will provide key staff support for programs at The Rockefeller University that build community and foster collaborations both within and without the greater University community. These programs are integral to sustaining and enhancing the University's unique culture of excellence, innovation, and the exploration of emerging fields of research and their relevance to the social, economic, health, and educational challenges facing society today. As part of a four-person events team, the Assistant Director will manage and oversee a portfolio of campus programs, including: the Insight Lecture Series; the Peggy Rockefeller Concert Series; the Talking Science lecture for high school students; the Lewis Thomas Prize for Science Writing; the University's annual Convocation events; and scientific symposia throughout the year. Will be responsible for managing all aspects of these programs, including scheduling, developing, and tracking invitation lists; devising and implementing marketing and communications strategies; drafting and editing print and digital content, as well as remarks and briefing materials; providing support for speakers; and overseeing venue logistics and catering. The Assistant Director will assist with the University's room reservation system, working with the Office of Communications and Public Affairs to ensure that all event content is current and available on the University website, and will also aide in the coordination of the rental of University facilities to non-profit organizations. The Assistant Director will have direct contact with faculty members, as well as with the University's President and Executive Officers, and will work closely with staff members in administrative departments throughout the University, acting as liaison with the on-site caterer, security, and campus audio-visual and custodial services.
Requirements: Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of related experience in the area of development or event management, preferably in a University or other appropriate non-profit setting. Must have excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse constituencies. Proven ability to plan and manage a wide range of activities, including large and small events required. Must possess excellent written communications skills, including the ability to edit and proofread a diversity of written materials. Must have strong management skills, including the ability to lead, inspire, motivate, and mentor junior staff, and the ability to fit smoothly into a well-run operation noted for its atmosphere of teamwork and open communication. Prior experience in participating effectively in team planning efforts necessary. Experience working with development software, Blackbaud CRM preferred; knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and HTML a plus.
Must be available to work evenings, early mornings, and occasional weekend events as necessary.
